how do you wear a clutch handbag?

it was a debate between my sister and i about what the proper way to carry a clutch handbag. she said that it is okay to carry it 'clutched' under the armpit. i disagreed and said that would look awkward and explained that a clutch is meant to be 'clutched' in the woman's hand and some are even made with wrist straps to free up her hands in case she needs to. what is the right way to carry one? does it make a difference?

I honestly don’t see what difference it makes. But I personally carry mine in my hand, unless I need to do something with that hand for a moment then I will temporarily stick it under my arm.
